Do not faint long suffering friends, but this is a happy post.
Jonty's paperwork is in my name, with him registered to me and cunningly hidden in my fucking house (and he's turning pretty grown up BLUE). All my birds now have pet insurance meaning that vet visits will cost me £35 rather than hundereds each time. I have been accepted on a full time SWAP Physical Sciences course which I start at the end of August, I get a bursary, I get to work fridays at my old job and that went down fine with the boss. We have been doing things socially on a regular basis, I got to see some far away friends at Bloodstock and also got to see happy bands.
I was going to put some effort in and do a proper review, then I realised that Metal Community has booted me out without saying anything, so beggar that. I did actually comment on stuff but oh well. So in brief:
Awesome Sauce: Blind Guardian, Candlemass, Equilibrium, Enslaved, Amon Amarth, Municipal Waste, Katatonia Horrifically Dissapointing: Moonsorrow (I LIKE these guys, what's going on??), Battlelore (poor sound)
Everything else was thoroughly enjoyable :) I was sad not to catch up some more with Cambridge peeps but my phone had no signal and meeting up was hard :( next time I will try to plan better! We got to camp with some Edinburgh/Fife people we didn't know too well but who welcomed us with open arms and who I hope are all friends now :) Only downer (bar the toilets!) was some of our friends got things nicked in the night when they were in their tents, with their valuables clutched to them :/ very creepy. One girl was on her own = exceptionally creepy.
As a result of my change in work situation it's likely I will be able to travel more at weekends in the near future so I might not be so much of a stranger :)
Picture post when I can find my cable! |

Nothing is actually fixed out of the long-mentioned usual complaints that I post here, and some things are getting worse before they get better. In the meantime, here's ( pictures ) |

I've not been around or posting much so here goes.
Last week or two has been mostly very good, for my birthday Martin and I stayed at Dalhousie Castle for a night in the honeymoon suite (a freebie they had to give me after cocking up the rooms for the wedding) and enjoyed a meal in the Dungeon restaurant there, which was most yummy, and probably the first time I've had a 5 course meal where all the courses were food and not cheating with coffee.
For official birthdayness we had a house party with cocktails in a teapot and lots of gaming. Martin didn't feel so good after having my cocktails, but he survived :) I was mildly annoyed in the leadup to how few of my edinburgh friends showed any inclination to attend, but I am also determined to stop being one of those goddawful irritating people who has been somewhere different and now does nothing but moan and moan how much better the social life/pubs/drinking/people/food was/were there (gap year people, I'm looking at you!). So far not being a moany cunt has been rewarded with some awesome new friends who not only came along with a cool goblet as a present, but also wrote me a thank you letter for the invite. I am dumbstruck with happiness.
On the down side, I am a little nervous as Jonty has to go for surgery tomorrow. He has been undergoing treatment for some time now for a foot problem, and it's not been working so surgery it is. I always freak a bit because of the anaesthetic as birds do not cope as well with it. On the plus side the vet wants me in there with him so I will see the whole thing start to finish which will be both interesting and reassuring to see that he's ok and be there when he wakes up all confused. Yes, I am a soppy shit with my birds. But they are basically children to me. Far more attractive, superior children.
Will probs do a photo update soon. Cos pictures are worth a thousand words and easier to think of too :p |

[Nov. 23rd, 2008|06:47 pm] |
Continuing the current trend of remembering to post after a bit, here goes:
Got to go hunting for the first time in a while, but didn't take my girl as she was a bit low in weight for comfort (and for the poor ferrets) so took her sister instead. Good chases, no kills but still a very nice day. Sadly have made my little panda feel poorly by taking it along a farm track, but I've got that all fixed up now courtesy of a Kwikfit mechanic with a hammer & blowtorch.
In a pleasant little surprise, I've been given Jonty (the baby peregrine that I imprinted and adore) so I am quite chuffed. Not made the transfer legal yet but will see if I can get that sorted this week. This is especially nice as I got so attached to him I was considering buying one of his siblings next year, but now have landed the original. Expect lots of silly pictures of him soon :)
Unfortunately this was tempered with a rather unpleasant argument with work this week, but the dust seems to be settling on that so I'm just trying to forget about it. I get a bit fed up when it happens, but meh, I'll live.
I got stuck with needles on Friday for the honeymoon, one of them seems to disagree with me as it has gone all red and sore, but I'm sure it's better than getting Typhoid or whatever it was. The nurse was disturbing in her definition of reassuring. "Right, now I'm going to give you x (holding big fuck off syringe). Aww, it's a shame, this is the one the babies cry with, because it hurts" erm yes thanks for that warning.
Also on Friday was the birthday of Martin! Yay! We had a nice time and a few friends over in the evening for drinks. Didn't get hammered as I had my hair and makeup trial in the morning, but it was still good. Trial itself went very well, I was actually pleased with how I looked after 3 people where finished attacking me with the implements of beauty. If only I could have that done every day, I'd be set in life! If I can be arsed at a later date I'll post a picture, honest opinions on whether it's ok are welcome. |

I've been down for the week with flu. Not pretend flu, the one where you aren't allowed to leave bed. I'm really bored of it now. Have also missed a lot of work, and lacking anything like sick pay also a lot of money. Boo.
Flu resulted in the worst possible thing for a strange goth creature like me, which is the ruination of Halloween. It's my one chance to wear my pvc skirt and my leather corset in one outfit and our friends not blink an eye. I did go, but I got rather ill rather quickly and had to go home. Shame as I proved that I can headbang (dangerously) in those lovely 6 inch heel pvc boots I have. Edinburgh metal clubs beware. The party was really awesome, lots of creepy drink and nibbles, a ceiling utterly covered in balloons, and a room entirely covered in plastic sheeting dexter style. Oh and a smoke machine! And scary movies projected onto the floor! Generally much better than I could have thought up.
Since then have just been poorly. I'm really annoyed as it's slowed my progress with Morgan who is nearly ready to go killing, just a bit more work put into her fitness. I'm sure work will keep working her for me though.
Puck is trying to moult before my wedding. I've told him not to. I don't think he was listening, he kept eating leaves. I missing him terribly just now, I think when I'm back at work I'll take him home with me for a night :) and take lots of pictures of his silly antics.
For my wedding necklace I've ordered Arwen's evenstar pendant. Yes, I am truly made of fail. But I like it that way.
I am going crazy in here, and miss the outdoors, my wee birds, people, doing stuff and alcohol. At least the carpet has stopped moving. It's the worst possible carpet for flu, it has swirls on it o_O |

| What I've done on my day off :) |
[Oct. 19th, 2008|12:25 am] |
So, for the first time in 3 months, Martin and I have had a proper day off together (no, the mountain biking didn't count, as it wasn't really together). This makes me look forward to many more days off together in the future, and I'm more determined than ever that I will make this the normal way of things next year.
The morning was taken up by sorting out suit hire for the "Groomsmen" and this was tedious but the results should be good. Should suit everyone anyway. Also got to see Martin's almost complete outfit (now with trousers, still waiting on the boots!) so I am happy ^_^
After a tasty lunch we decided to go to the Aquarium in St Andrews. We weren't sure we would have much time at it as we wouldn't make it there until 3pm, but once we got there it was a nice size to get around in an hour or so and very cheap! We saw many fishy things, pictures to follow.
Afterwards we went on a walk along the coast and popped into someone's garden which advertised itself as "possibly the best garden in St Andrews". It had an honesty box (I'm always an honest sucker for these for some reason) entrance fee, was big and had an amazing view of the sea and naughty seagulls. All the money goes towards the maintenance and the rest to charity, and it was fun to look around so I'm glad we went in. Even if the man who lived there did call Martin a lady by accident because of his long hair *heehee* he said sorry though.
We then went around the surprisingly fun St Andrews University Museum, got a quick coffee and cake and headed back to Edinburgh.
This is probably not the most fascinating day in the world, but it's been so long since we had a day off together that it feels important to me. It's highlighted how fucked up the days off situation is right now at least.
( Beware, here be pictures! Seriously, lots of pictures. I got a new phone. ) |

So the playlist for the wedding reception is mostly sorted, it's a mixture of ceilidh (yeah yeah, but everyone bar me seems to like it fine) and old school metal/rock. The one thing still bugging me is what to have our first dance to? Currently thinking the cover of Nothing Else Matters by Apocalyptica...but this will DEFINITELY require dance lessons if we are not to look like twats!!
Any suggestions, oh wonderful and wise friends of metalness/gothness? Can't scare my Grandma mind. Gorgoroth (any version of which) is almost certainly way out for example.
On another topic, work has really freaking knackered me this week. There have been 4 trees coming down in the grounds over the course of the week and for some reason birds of prey are unsettled by chainsaws and 200 year old trees falling all over the place. Not the best flying I've ever seen. Combine this with the shocking incompetence of the current wedding coordinator up at the castle causing general havoc with bookings (yay! This lady is in charge of my booking too!) and you get a very tired and narky D. I've been pretty snappy.
Today has been my day off so I've had a day to myself and played lots of Endless Ocean. Strange japanese version of Enya soundtrack + fishy cuddles = goooooooooood relaxation. |

| [ | mood |
| | cheerful | ] | So I've not posted in a bit for a multitude of reasons. Reason number one is that I've just launched my new business (joint with 2 others) and it's going ok. It may go well enough to allow me a slight shift in focus in the future. I'm always pretty shy about what I'm doing business wise, I don't like combining it with the opinions of people I care about so that's all I'm going to say for now :) Maybe I'll get bold enough to show you some stuff I'm doing, probably not :p
Reason number 2 is the impending doom of wedding planning. I realised today with mild horror that there is only 2 months to go, and I have a load of important stuff outstanding (Martin's trousers, that form I need to fill out that will make us married with the birth certificates and everything, the GODDAMN DRESS BEING MADE). I would like to think I am being calm and unflappable in my preparations. Hmm.
I'm a bit more relaxed these past few days than I have been for a little bit, so I'm taking some time to play spore (which has the magical power to make 8pm suddenly become 2am) and might even get back onto World of Warcraft.
But yeah, the gist of things is I'm not dead, and all is well. Now I'm going to go and buy a yummy baguette at the yummy baguette shop on the corner. Or a Macdonalds. I'm not sure yet. |

[Sep. 5th, 2008|08:59 am] |
Well really I was half planning on doing a picture post of things I've done/seen but my phone cannot talk to my pc anymore apparently. I would fix it, but I can't be arsed.
I'm on a surprise extra day off to rest the shoulder, which is a good thing. Oh wait, yeah I injured my shoulder. Doctor thinks I've either ripped a muscle or popped it out and in again messily (wouldn't I notice that?!) so I am in a world of hurt. Oh yes, and it is the bird picking up arm. I am enjoying my extra day off. So far I have gone to the post office to pick up a package of custom charge doom (wedding tree has arrived! YAY!) and done some gentle tidying.
Went to see Alestorm again last Friday and they were good, although instruments weren't quite working the way they should have. Broken keytar = sad D. Hearing new song Leviathan for the first time (bearing in mind I didn't get to go to any popular festivals of metal and not-washingness recently) was neat. They were also supported by an excitingly large sounding 4 bands. I thought the other 4 bands were ok, some admittedly weren't that great but they weren't insufferable. Does anyone else get pissed off at people who heckle support bands and shout for the headliner when it was well advertised it was a 5 band event? I do. Don't show up til later, asshat? I was extremely irritable between bands with lack of entertainment, being in Glasgow and hyperactive claustrophobia, leading to one "victim" being shouted at and vaguely threatened (seen that newish episode of Metalocalypse with Snakes and Barrels, where Toki loses it? Going to happen).
Wow, that was a terrible gig review. I'm glad so many of you write good ones :) On the topic of gigs: who's going to be buying their tickets for Wacken next year? I am determined I will go! No matter how much Stuart has been putting me off with tales of no washing... |

| Bridesmaidey deadness |
[Aug. 18th, 2008|06:07 pm] |
The wedding of bridesmaiding doom is over, and I am very sleepy, having had to work the day after it. It was a pretty wedding, even if the build up to it has been increasingly stressful. I would like to sleep for a week, but I don't think that is going to happen. Tonight (foolishly) we're going to see the Chinese State Circus which is on for the fringe. We've also caught "One for the Road", a 50 minute play about political prisoners, which was fun (well not really, a good play I guess!) and we're going to see some comedians later this week, to prove we can maybe do the whole cultured going to shows thing.
For those of you who want to see a picture of me in my princess tiara, here is a ( blissfully blurry picture ) |

| My post where I realise I've done shockingly little of note this week. |
[Aug. 12th, 2008|05:17 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | drained | ] | This week has as per usual mainly been spent working, both at the job and on the various last printable things for the upcoming (not mine) wedding this week. My life has been pretty boring actually. I'm not sure why I'm posting. Because it's my one day off in the week I suppose. I have been working on the secret projects of doom a little, things are going quite nicely with them.
We decided it would be a good idea to give Ascension, Edinburgh's number 1 (only) goth club that runs monthly. It was ok, would be nicer if the crowd were a little (a lot) friendlier, but goth clubs never seem to be. Might make more of an effort to go all the way across to Glasgow for Bedlam a little more frequently, which doesn't make me feel like I shouldn't be dancing because I'm not shuffling enough.
I'm enjoying the domestic bliss of laundry, ironing, cooking and cleaning so far in the new house, the only thing I'm failing miserably at is keeping the houseplants looking healthy. I am doing some nice flower arranging though. Also found my fishies from Cyprus, so I will make something nice with them soom. Thinking of doing just a fishy bracelet with them. I may put it up for sale, I may not. It depends how much I attached to the individual fish and whether or not I accidentally give them names. This is a strong possibility. |
